Privacy online

Tor, the Internet without a direct route.

Tor makes it harder for sites, network operators and observers to link your identity to your browsing.

A multi-hop path

Tor routes your connection through at least three volunteer relays. No single relay knows both who you are and which site you're visiting.

Layers of encryption

The browser wraps your data in multiple cryptographic layers. Each relay peels off only the layer needed to know the next hop: hence the name onion routing.

.onion services

A .onion address stays entirely within the Tor network and authenticates the service through its own address. It only opens with Tor Browser.

What Tor doesn't do

Tor doesn't automatically secure a compromised device and doesn't erase information you choose to share. Use an up-to-date Tor Browser, avoid extra extensions, and don't share personal data if you want to keep your identity separate.
